Overview

This UK based Academy Trust, comprising of multiple Primary level schools was experiencing an unprecedented period of growth, expanding from 2 educational settings to 6 within 12 months.

The CEO saw this as an opportunity to bring individual school and trust leaders together to develop an aligned organisation-wide cultural vision which recognised each setting as unique yet part of a wider, supportive environment which could be used as a guiding framework if and when other schools joined the trust.

Questline were known to the sponsor through our ‘Inspiring Teachers in Leadership’ initiative where we had demonstrated the value of our coaching approach to leaders within this unique sector and were approached to provide a proposal in response to the exciting challenges faced.

The Mission

The client wanted to:

  • Bring the leadership group together, collaborating to align on cultural vision, values and guiding principles
  • Support individual leaders through a period of transition whilst developing their unique leadership blueprint
  • Offer flexibility and convenience to delegates acknowledging the varied nature of educational leadership and avoiding extended periods away from their vital work

  • Enable educational leaders to develop a ‘coaching leadership style’ through experiential learning
  • Utilise a partnership that was scalable and cost effective
  • Run the programme over a number of months to offer support during extended time of transition
Our Solution

We started with a Discovery meeting with the sponsor (the CEO) to work through their current situation and potential focus areas and themes and what they were wishing to achieve and how we could help.

Working through our ‘Collaborate’ focus area we were able to devise a bespoke group and 1:1 coaching package spanning 3 months comprising tailored facilitated Group workshops and individual coaching sessions – supporting leaders in their work during this transitionary period and observe and test the cultural vision in action.

As well as an individual ‘Leadership Blueprint’ from the 1:1 sessions we also proposed the creation of a trust wide ‘Cultural Blueprint’ which was to be used as a guidance for other schools who may join the trust.

In order for the programme to remain flexible, hourly 1:1 sessions were agreed between each of the delegates at a time convenient to them. 30 minute and 45 minute sessions were also accommodated if required. Additionally, re-scheduling (which is common when working with educational leaders) was accommodated through the pre-booking of Personal Reflection Sessions meaning cancellation rates were low.

Group sessions were co-ordinated centrally by the trust for maximum convenience and workshops never extended beyond 3 hours meaning leaders were not expoected to have extended periods away from their vital work.

Finally, costs were controlled as the coaching calls were remote which also added to the convenience meaning cancellation rates were low, maximising value.

Offering 30 min or 45 min sessions helped avoid cancellations and pre-booking 'reflection sessions' in calendars allowed schedules to be more easily updated"

“Personally, much more aware of my emotional response to situations and the impact on what I am trying to achieve. Organisationally, recognising and valuing all peoples’ contributions and responding differently to feedback. The impact has been transformational.”
